For that reason, you'll want to add a joiner board to shore up the end. Cut the joiner board to size and install it, tightly securing it to the joist. Finish up by adding screws to the concealed clip, which holds the board in place.

Lastly, once the board is in place, you should fill any visible screw holes with wood putty. Afterward, use a sandpaper block or orbital sander to level out the filler and then add a coat of wood preservative to the board.
