How to Make a Chinese Knot Fastening

Chinese knots are beautiful decorative elements that have been used in China for over 2,000 years. They can be used to adorn clothing, jewelry, and other accessories. The process of making a Chinese knot can seem difficult, but with practice and patience, anyone can master the art of knotting. In this article, we will show you how to make a Chinese knot fastening step-by-step.

Materials Needed:

- 2 strands of cord or string (one longer than the other)

- Scissors

Step 1: Create the Starting Knot

Take the longer strand of cord and create a small loop at the center. The looped end should be on top of the two strands of the cord. Then, fold the right cord over the looped end and tuck it under the left cord. Finally, pull the right cord up and over the loop and through the space between the loop and the left cord. Pull the knot tight.

Step 2: Create the First Half Knot

Now that you have your starting knot, divide the longer strand of cord in half. Take the left half and make a loop on top of the right strand. Then, place the right half behind the left half and bring it over the back of the loop. Finally, pull the right strand through the loop and tighten the knot.

Step 3: Create the Second Half Knot

Repeat the same steps on the opposite side. Take the right half of the longer cord and make a loop on top of the left strand. Place the left half behind the right half and bring it over the back of the loop. Pull the left strand through the loop and tighten the knot. You should now have two half knots that meet in the middle.

Step 4: Tie the Knot Together

Take the shorter strand of cord and hold it in the center where the two half knots meet. Wrap the shorter cord around the center, holding the two halves together. Wrap the shorter cord around twice and then tuck the end under the wrapped cord. Ensure that the knot is centered and tight.

Step 5: Finish Knotting

With the shorter cord in place, knot the longer cord into the desired design. Traditional Chinese knots can take on many forms, such as the Butterfly Knot or the Double Coin Knot. Follow the instructions for the chosen knot and when completed, pull the longer cord through the center of the knot. Finally, trim the ends of both cords and secure them with clear nail polish or glue.
