What is the difference between high-strength fasteners and ordinary fasteners?

2023/07/21

The difference between high-strength fasteners and ordinary fasteners is mainly reflected in the following aspects: materials, manufacturing processes, scope of use, performance requirements, etc. In terms of materials, maijin's high-strength fasteners usually use high-strength alloy steel such as 40Cr, 35CrMo, etc. as materials, and undergo heat treatment and surface treatment to improve the strength and corrosion resistance of the material; while ordinary fasteners mostly use ordinary carbon steel or stainless steel as materials. In terms of manufacturing process, more stringent process control will be adopted in the manufacturing process of high-strength fasteners, including multiple processes such as heat treatment, surface treatment, cold processing, and precision machining to ensure that the strength and performance of the material meet relevant standards; the manufacturing process of ordinary fasteners is relatively simple, and generally only requires simple processes such as cold processing and heat treatment. In terms of scope of use, high-strength fasteners are mainly suitable for occasions that bear large loads and severe working conditions, such as bridges, aerospace, machinery manufacturing and other fields; ordinary fasteners are suitable for general fastening and connection requirements, such as furniture, electrical appliances, automobiles and other fields. In terms of performance requirements, high-strength fasteners have higher requirements for indicators such as tensile strength, hardness, and corrosion resistance, and usually need to meet relevant standards such as GB/T 3098, ISO898, etc.; and ordinary fasteners have lower performance requirements, and generally only need to meet relevant standards such as GB/T 3098. In addition, the tightening torque of high-strength fasteners is also different from that of ordinary fasteners. Since the material of high-strength fasteners is relatively hard and the tightening torque is relatively large, special tools are required to increase force to ensure its correct and safe fastening; while the fastening torque of ordinary fasteners is small, hand tools can generally be used to complete the fastening process. In practical applications, the selection of suitable fasteners needs to be evaluated according to the specific situation. For occasions that need to bear large loads and severe working conditions, high-strength fasteners are preferred, which can provide higher safety and reliability; while for general fastening requirements, ordinary fasteners can meet the requirements and have the advantage of lower cost. In short, there are obvious differences between high-strength fasteners and ordinary fasteners in terms of materials, manufacturing processes, scope of use, and performance requirements. Appropriate fasteners can be selected according to specific needs to ensure the quality and safety of fastened connections.
